Victim says stolen car found with 3100 additional miles, blacked out windows and stench of marijuana

A local woman was the victim of a carjacking in Mid-City.But when her car was found just days later, she was stunned at what had happened to it.In a beautiful part Mid-City along Esplanade Avenue, the victim was carjacked in early June.”My car is material, it can be replaced — my emotions, and the way I feel — I was sickened and nauseated,” said the victim, who WDSU News is not identifying.But she called police, who she says promptly responded, and filed a police report. Five days later, her Lexus SUV was found in New Orleans.”They’re not taking these cars for joy rides or stripping them for parts,” the victim said.She strongly believes it was used for no good.”I believe my car was used in drug trafficking,” she said. “My car was found, five days later with over 3,100 miles put on it, the windows blackened and a ton of marijuana residue.”She feels whoever stole it used it to transport drugs back to the city. We broke it down, Los Angeles is almost 1,800 miles from New Orleans, Chicago is more than 900, New York City is 1,300 and Juarez, Mexico, is just over 1,000.”I am angry, I am beyond angry,” the victim said.”More cars are being carjacked today,” said security expert Mike Cahn, who used to run the NOPD’s traffic division.”Now a lot of these cars that are stolen are used in murders and shootings and drive-bys and all sorts of other crimes, it’s very disturbing,” Cahn said. “If you think your neighborhood is safe, I have another thought for you,” said the victim.The NOPD is investigating this matter.Year-to-date carjacking is up 96% in New Orleans — 157 this year compared to 80 at this time last year.
