Texas woman contract fraud St. John the Baptist parish

A woman who was the center of a WDSU investigation linked to contract fraud has been arrested and accused again. WDSU Investigates first reported on Laura Patricia Nandin back in April. Nandin, 50, of Farmers Branch, Texas, was arrested Monday and faces several charges of contractor fraud.In January 2022, the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office said it began receiving several complaints from residents about contractor fraud. The sheriff said Nandin, the owner and operator of M&M Contractors and M&M Roofing and Contractors, had committed contractor fraud. Nandin is accused of operating her business out of Texas and did not have a license for contracting as required by Louisiana law. Nandin reportedly took payments to work on several Hurricane Ida victims’ homes but did not complete the work, according to the sheriff. She was arrested recently in Texas by agents of the Texas Attorney General’s Office and extradited to Louisiana. Nandin was booked for a total of 13 felony violations, including residential contractor fraud, theft by fraud over $25,000, engaging in the business of contracting without authority, and misapplication of payments by a contractor.The sheriff said losses in this investigation are reported to be several hundred thousand dollars. Nandin is being held in custody in lieu of a $305,000 bond, according to the sheriff.
