This week there is a lot going on on the east side of Broadway in Alexandria.
Construction barriers, cones, and barrels are located along a two block section from Fifth to Seventh Avenues, from Cherry Street Books to Past and Present.
Some parts of the sidewalk are closed by signs, but entrances and entrances to all shops remain open.
One lane was closed earlier this week while roofing was carried out using trucks, cranes and ladders in yesterday’s antique building. It’s part of a $ 630,000 remodel project that will merge The Dashery clothing store with yesterday’s store on 517 Broadway.
The project includes an updated facade, roof replacement, interior work and a new rear entrance. Mandy Brower, owner of The Dashery at 509 Broadway, bought the building and business from yesterday, bringing both businesses into one building.
“We’re redoing the whole roof,” said Ron Moritz, yesterday’s manager, of the work that is taking place now. “We had to shovel snow from the roof and it came towards the sidewalk.”
The roofing work should be finished next week and Moritz said the goal was to finish the entire project by May 1st.
“We’re excited – it went great,” said Moritz.
