Leading Brazilian EPC Andrade Gutierrez on the construction of an 830 MW Janaúba PV system in the state of Minas Gerais with a bifacially optimized NX Horizon ™ solution
SOROCABA, BRAZIL, March 2, 2021 – Nextracker ™, a flex company, announced that it has been selected by leading Brazilian EPC company Andrade Gutierrez and developer Elera Renováveis (formerly Brookfield Energia Renovável) to generate 830 MW to supply its world-leading solar tracker technology, NX Horizon ™, for Phase I of the Janaúba solar complex near the city of Janaúba, Minas Gerais, Brazil. After completion, the plant will be the largest of its kind in South America and is scheduled to go into operation in early 2022.
“We are very excited to be working with Nextracker on the Janaúba solar system,” said Patricio Pavez, General Manager for Renewable Energy at Andrade Gutierrez. “Nextracker’s extensive know-how in research and development and construction of wind design and proven bifacial gains ultimately led us to select the NX Horizon intelligent solar tracker.”
“We look forward to working with Nextracker to consolidate Brazil’s position as the leader in solar in Latin America,” said Beverly Martinez, vice president of technology at Elera Renováveis.
Built with proven quality and reliability, NX Horizon is the single axis solar tracker of choice for projects larger than 45 GW worldwide. He will help Elera Renováveis to maximize the performance of the Janaúba plant while minimizing operating costs. Nextracker’s regional office in Brazil will provide comprehensive support for the project with technical advice as well as commissioning, asset management and advanced data analysis services for preventive maintenance. Installation crews benefit from Nextracker’s PowerworX Academy Installer Installer to learn best practices on-site and at the company’s training center in Sorocaba, Sao Paulo state.
“We are honored to work side by side with our partners Elera and Andrade Gutierrez on the implementation of Brazil’s largest solar tracker project,” said Marco Garcia, Chief Commercial Officer at Nextracker. “Nextracker’s experienced on-site staff in combination with the latest solar trackers and software technologies from our company will ensure that this historic project can reach its full potential.”
Brazil is one of the fastest growing solar markets in the Latin America region, partly due to its high irradiance and solar friendly policies. To date, the country has 7.4 gigawatts of cumulative solar systems. Minas Gerais is the largest Brazilian state for solar capacity in the nation.
Nextracker is the selected provider of PV system technology and intelligent solar trackers for some of the largest solar power plants in the world, such as the 1 GW solar park Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in the United Arab Emirates, the 838 MW plant in Villanueva, Mexico, and the 460 MW Western Downs facility in Queensland, Australia.
