The acquisition is a milestone in LafargeHolcim’s endeavor to become a global leader in innovative and sustainable building solutions and “to create a world that works for people and the planet”, says CEO Jan Jenisch, who at the forefront of the Swiss contemporaries the perspective of the roofing market acquired Sika AG. “With Firestone Building Products we are strengthening our largest market, the USA, and at the same time building a global platform for growth and innovation. I have great respect for the high-profile leadership and expertise of the Firestone Building Products team, and look forward to welcoming them to the LafargeHolcim family. “
“We are in a great position to accelerate our growth through combination [our] Advanced technology and expertise with the global size and reach of LafargeHolcim, ”adds FBP President Taylor Cole, whose organization includes 15 manufacturing facilities, 1,800 distribution points and three research and development laboratories.
Building on FBP’s organic growth, LafargeHolcim plans to combine acquisitions and cross-sell opportunities with core businesses. The manufacturer is also aiming to globalize a roofing, siding, insulation and lining portfolio by leveraging its European and Latin American construction market positions. Officials highlight how urbanization trends are accelerating the development of the flat roof market and the critical role FBP solutions play in resource efficiency, as up to 60 percent of a building’s energy is lost through the roof. FBP mitigates this condition with cooling roof, insulation and waterproofing systems, while its green roof offerings contribute to a sustainable urban environment. Roof technologies complement LafargeHolcim’s sustainable building solutions, from ECOPact green concrete to cement-based EcoLabel materials. All of this accelerates the commitment to zero carbon operations by 2050.
“LafargeHolcim’s acquisition of Firestone Building Products enables a firm entry into a number of new product segments, including key low-pitch plastic and rubber roofing membranes, and metal roofing and wall panel assemblies. These products have seen solid growth in demand over the past several years and will continue to do so, which is an immediate boost to annual sales, ”noted Matt Zielenski, industry analyst at Cleveland-based market researcher Freedonia Group. “LafargeHolcim has worked to position itself as a provider of environmentally friendly building materials, such as durable concrete formulations that help keep materials out of waste streams. The company can expand its offering in this area with Firestone Building Products, which makes environmentally friendly building materials such as light-colored roofing membranes that reduce heat transfer and insulated metal panels that improve the energy efficiency of a structure. “
