Homeowners and potential buyers looking to spruce up their existing space or add to a property are in luck this week. The Charleston Fall Home Show returns to the tri-county Oct. 7-8, at a new venue.
The Charleston Area Convention Center is the host site this year, giving organizers more space for special events throughout the two-day show.
For the past 18 years, Charleston Home + Design Magazine staged two, three-day home shows annually at the Gaillard Center in downtown Charleston.
“Friday and Saturday are our busiest days, so we decided to choose those particular days (this year) and make it a little easier for vendors that might not have the staff to work all week long, then staff a home show and talk to homeowners,” said Timothy A. Barkley, publisher of Charleston Home + Design Magazine.
This year’s show will include free admission and parking at the center in North Charleston. Attendees can choose to view a number of planned panel discussions, including ones devoted to selecting windows, designing a space around artwork, kitchen and bathroom remodeling and creating a functional garden, among other topics.
Barkley said a lot of people know they want a new kitchen but might not know the steps involved or who to call to assist with the project.
“They can come to the Charleston Fall Home Show and talk to dozens and dozens of different home service providers that specialize in kitchen remodeling or bathroom remodeling,” Barkley said.
Vendors from a number of specialties will attend the show including experts in appliances, elevators, window treatments and everything in between. Charleston Home + Design will host the Charleston Fall Home Show at the Charleston Area Convention Center on Oct. 7-8, 2022. Provided

Local interior designers and architects will provide free consultations at the home show. Barkley said that is one of the most popular parts of the event. He got the idea from a home show offered in Manhattan, New York, by Architectural Digest.
Designers will be on-hand to talk to registered show-goers for about 20 minutes each. Oftentimes, those quick conversations lead homeowners to hire the designer for their home projects.
Jodi Crosby, lead designer and owner of Crosby Creations, is among the people offering free consultations this week. Residential building designers at her company specialize in creating working drawings. Their plans — when paired with a structural engineer — will give a builder all of the needed documents to apply for a permit and construct the project, Crosby said.

She will conduct consultations at the show for custom home designs and renovations or addition designs.
“Mostly what these consultation would entail is kind of the footwork for projects,” Crosby said. “So we would talk about where they’re building, what their lot looks like, what their zoning might be through whatever municipality they’re located in.”
Those who sign up for consultations are asked to bring pictures, sketches and details about their ideas to the home show. Crosby said if owners choose to continue with her services, a follow-up meeting will be scheduled in her office to further discuss the client’s design criteria in depth.
People can attend this week’s home show and walk away with the needed professional contacts to begin a project before the holidays or in the coming year, all within the timespan it might take to go out to dinner, Barkley said.
Show hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 7 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 8. Call the magazine at 843-577-7652 to schedule a free consultation with architects or interior designers. Go to charlestonfallhomeshow.com for more information about the event.
