The interactive survey on Golden On Deck was completed with a total of 1,118 completed surveys and attracted over 20,000 page views to the goldenondeck.ca website.
The poll gave residents of Golden and Area A the opportunity to hear their voices on what a water center in Golden would look like.
The results have now been compiled so that trends can be examined to inform the next steps in the process.
From there, a preferred option is recommended for the possible development of a new indoor water facility.
The proposal will include a six-lane lap and recreational pool, which 81 percent of respondents supported.
A hot tub was the most popular recommendation, as were steam and sauna rooms and a multipurpose room.
Overall, the center will have a design that would allow for the possible addition of a high school in a future phase.
All of these recommendations are based on data gathered from the survey and other community engagement initiatives.
While COVID-19 has caused some minor setbacks in the process, the project planning process continues with the preliminary draft plan.
With the results of the public survey and a preferred system in place, the project team will continue to develop a concept design and high-level final report.
This work includes a location analysis, the creation of a conceptual floor plan and further technical analyzes.
In the next phase, a refined project cost estimate and the determination of possible sponsors and grants can be expected. Once completed, a brochure will be developed to share the information with the community.
